honey

cold candy

I keep this little remedy on the counter and spoon it into my mouth and my kids’ each time we notice a little mucus or sore throat coming on. It helps to ward off colds and flus and also strengthens digestion. If you notice a lot of mucus you can also add a 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper or red chilli powder and 1/4 tsp black pepper to the mix (most kids don’t like this though, so I stick to the recipe below). You can also spoon it into hot water as a tea. This recipe is from Yogahealer.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of raw honey
  • 2 tbsp ground turmeric
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/8 tsp ground clove
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Sterilize an 8 oz mason jar and put about 2/3 of the honey into the jar.
  2. Add the herbs and stir until a thick paste forms.
  3. Add the rest of the honey and stir some more.
  4. Cover and keep for up to 3 months on the counter.
