AYURVEDIC COOKING FOR AUTUMN with Debbie Helfeld

Seasonal transitions can be challenging for our bodies. As we move from summer season (Pitta) to fall (Vata), we want to insure that we eat well to stay healthy.  You will receive dietary tips and advice on good foods and spices to consume during this time and into the fall.  We will prepare a delicious and nourishing meal to support us:  a dal dish, vegetable dish and a rice dish.

Debbie has a Masters Degree in Public Health (MPH), is a Certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor and a Yoga Teacher, RYT-500. She has been teaching yoga for over 15 years and has a Certification in Yoga for Osteoporosis. As an Ayurvedic Health Counselor she provides private consultations on diet, lifestyle and stress management, incorporating yoga, pranayama and meditation. She also conducts workshops on Ayurveda for interested groups and teacher trainees. One of her passions is cooking delicious and nourishing food, and she specializes in leading Ayurvedic Indian Vegetarian Cooking Workshops.

MEAL PLANNING AND COOKING FOR A HEALTHY SPRING: As we prepare for the spring in our yards and living spaces we also want to plan for healthy eating in the new season.  Whereas in winter we ate more fat and heavy food, in the spring we eat lighter foods and more that are pungent, bitter and astringent. In this class we will prepare a spring vegetable dish together and talk about  nourishing and delicious foods and spices for the Kapha season.  We will review a sample menu, and you will receive a few additional recipes to try on your own.”

As the winter snow and ice melts, the earth becomes heavy with moisture, ripe for growth and a fresh, clean start. Spring is emerging.
